DESCRIPTION:Join Francophonie Atlanta\, the Ecole du Samedi Atlanta\, and the Alliance Française d’Atlanta for a play IN FRENCH about famous French fabulist Jean de La Fontaine\, created by the French collective Aux Arts Etc. \n\nAbout the play: June 1642… somewhere in a forest. Jean de la Fontaine is about to make a meeting that will change the course of his life… This meeting will be for the young man\, the revelation of a gift\, that of speaking and being heard by animals! The young man is about to pass between a reed and oak whose nasty gust of wind has caused the roots of the earth to come out… his foot gets caught in the roots\, he loses his balance\, falls\, his head hits the ground… he faints and will only be awakened by the voices of a crow and a fox arguing over… cheese! The rest?… It will be up to you to discover it and judge on the spot!\n\n\nThere will be two FREE performances of “Gens de La Fontaine”:\n1) Friday\, April 28th at 6PM\, at Alliance Française d’Atlanta\n2) Saturday\, April 29th at 10:30AM\, at Atlanta International School\n\n\nClick here to register: www.francophonieatlanta.com/upcoming

SUMMARY:Gothic Soul: Charles Meryon Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Gothic Soul will focus on the tumultuous life and work of Charles Meryon (1821-1868)\, a French artist who devoted himself to etching after discovering he was color blind. The illegitimate son of a dancer in the Paris Opéra and an English physician\, Meryon pursued a career in the French Navy\, where he learned to draw. This exhibition will present a sweeping view of his oeuvre\, from etchings of the South Pacific\, inspired by his travels as a naval officer\, to now-iconic depictions of Paris during the Gothic Revival. Over 30 works will be on view\, the majority on loan from a private collector\, and a small catalogue will accompany the exhibition. Telfair’s permanent collection works\, including a selection of reproductions of Meryon’s etchings of Paris\, gifted to the United States by the French nation after World War II\, will also be displayed.
